“With little you cando a lot”
ESADE|April 14, 2011
Through the cultural association The Arts Storage RoomWe have learned about a projectcalled Much Woman.
"The goal of this project is to try to get womenmarginalized from society, whether for relational and/or economic reasons, may"Regain self-esteem by participating in plays"
The Acció Solidària contra l'Atur foundation tries to provide financial support to projects like this one, which we will learn about firsthand today, as they have opened their doors to us and explained their relationship with the foundation and how the Mucha Mujer project works.
How did you find out about Acció Solidària Contra l'Atur (ASCA)?
During the summer of 2010, we looked for a bank that would grant us a loan to carry out the preparation and organization of the premiere of the play There, where you keep the strength of your humanity,
Within the framework of the first edition of the Mucha Mujer project, in July we contacted Albert Gasch Hurios, customer manager of Fiare Catalunya.
Considering the objectives of the Mucha Mujer project, among which the labor integration is noteworthy, Albert Gasch Hurios advised us to contact Francesc Casas, from ASCA.
What were the beginnings like?
Following Albert Gasch's recommendations, we contacted Montse Moretó from ASCA, who arranged an appointment for us with Francesc Casas in September.
Prior to the meeting, we sent him various documents related to the Mucha Mujer project. On the day of the meeting, we received an excellent welcome from Francesc Casas and his colleague.
We were surprised that they had taken the time to study in detail the various documents we had sent them before the meeting. They were very enthusiastic and positive about our project. At the end of the meeting, they asked us to send them more documentation so that the board could make a decision regarding granting a loan to the Trastero de las Artes association.
How has ASCA helped you start your new business?
After sending them the additional information they had requested, Francesc called us to tell us that the ASCA board agreed to lend us the amount requested by the Palau de la Música Catalana (the place where Trastero de las Artes' new theatrical creation, Allí, donde guardas la fuerza de tu humanidad, premiered on November 27) for the rental of the Sala de Música de Cambra.
However, since Trastero de las Artes ultimately preferred to assume this cost without assistance, we did not request a loan from ASCA, but instead agreed with them to establish a relationship of financial support should it become necessary.
What does the Trastero de las Artes cultural association do?
Trastero de las Artes is a non-profit cultural association, created in March 2008, dedicated to researching and promoting the arts in all their expressions. The research work ofArts Storage RoomIt is based on integrating the language of art, poetics and the body with other languages and social practices, such as education, health or the human sciences, and enabling an awareness of the relationships that people establish with themselves, with others and with their environment.
What does the Mucha Mujer sociocultural project consist of?
The idea for the Mucha Mujer project originated from the women in the family ofLaura SettecaseThe creator and director of the project began to consider where they were and where they felt that inner strength that, at a specific moment, changed the course of things. The projectMany WomenIt was, therefore, designed and conceived to address social problems from an artistic perspective and to highlight thegreat potential that the activities havecultural initiatives to alleviate social problems.
The women participating in the theater training workshops offered as part of the Mucha Mujer project suffer from a lack of participation in society, both economically and politically and socio-relationally. Therefore, the project aims to maintain their self-esteem, their will to overcome obstacles, and their motivation to persevere despite difficulties through theater.
What do you value most about your experience?
I am convinced that you can always turn your dreams into realities; it is always worth trying to make a real idea that you strongly believe in, especially when it comes to contributing with your actions to improve the world in which we live.
While there is no doubt that it can be done and that it is worthwhile, there is also no doubt that, to carry out any action, it is essential to surround oneself with motivated and committed people, as well as collaborators from both the third sector and the private and public sectors.
What recommendation would you give to those who are in the same situation as you?
Without a doubt, one of the most important lessons I've learned from this experience is that a lot can be achieved with a little. If you want to give continuity and strength to any kind of project—and perhaps especially to a sociocultural project like Mucha Mujer—in order to face the many challenges of sustainability, it's essential to establish collaborative partnerships between the public sector, the private sector, and non-profit organizations.
